Fountain of youth and great Golf

If ever you have visited Slovenia, you will remember this country for its breathtaking nature – primeval forests, gigantic mountains, spectacular lakes and rivers – for its culture and history – for Ljubljana and Ptuj, its castles, Plecnik-, and baroque, Art Nouveau and seaside architecture – for recreational health and wellness in the thermo mineral water of Moravske Toplice, Ptuj, Catez or Otocec - all this combined with great golf – for Bled, Arboretum, Moravske-Toplice, Mokrice, Otocec. Golf and healthy recreation is a perfect match which guarantees wonderful holidays. You can enjoy special attractions such as Slovenske Konice, play golf surrounded by vineyards, and - last but not least – enjoy Lipica, the cradle of the Lipizzaner Horse, where you play golf next to the paddocks and where you can even gamble after the game in the Casino.

For quite some time, golf and travel in connection with Slovenia was synonymous with Golf Kamp Bled, a remarkable golf resort which was founded in 1937 and celebrates its seventieth anniversary this year. Thanks to its magnifi cent nature, high culture, and history, Slovenia, the country in the Pannonian plain, at the Mediterranean, the Julian Alps, and the Karawank and Dolenska mountains in the south, has always been a very attractive travel destination.

In the early 90ies this perfect match of active golf playing holidays combined with healthy recreation in Slovenian thermal water set new standards. Slovenia is literally the fountain of youth for golf travellers.

Slovenia features 10 distinguished golf courses offering plenty of delight:

Bled, featuring 27 holes, is celebrating its seventieth anniversary this year. It is not without reason that the 18-hole championship course is called „King’s Course“: Golf Bled was founded upon request of the former King of Yugoslavia, whose summer residence was located at Lake Bled just below the famous Lake Bled Castle. Today, Bled is considered a jewel on the crown of Slovenian golf.

Lipica is a real attraction located in the karst countryside close to the Mediterranean, the pictoresque Piran and the unique Postojna Caves. Lipica Golf was founded in 1989. The Lippizianer white horses, hotel and casino make this golf destination so very special. Lipica is the westernmost, and Livada Golf Course the easternmost golf club being located in Moravske Toplice close to the Hungarian border. A speciality of this course is the 9th hole, par 5, which with 600 metres is Slovenia’s longest golf-hole. Terme 3000 is located directly at the course and features a range of 4-star hotels and a variety of facilities for the improvement of your health.

This range of health spas starts in the East and continues in Moravske Toplice and Ptuj at the Dravinia River. Ptuj is Slovenia’s oldest town, featuring not only an ultramodern clubhouse, but also an 18-hole golf course with a very challenging island-green. All this await players and visitors and should not be missed!

Not far from Ptuj and the second biggest Slovenian town, Maribor, lies „Zlati Gric“-Golf Course (9 holes) in Olimje surrounded by the vineyards, which mean the world to the town and the surrounding Slovenske Konice. Terme Olinje is the perfect place to regenerate after the game – also excellent wines are on choice.

In eastern Slovenia near the Croatian border, directly next to Terme Catez, lie the 18 holes of Golfcub Schloss Mokrice. Mokrice is next to Bled and Lipica the third golf course which was created by Donald Harradine. This course is considered the most beautiful, but also the most challenging golf course in Slovenia. All 18 holes were placed around the medieval castle Kokrice, and one of the tee-offs, par 3, leads directly into the moat, which no longer carries water. Terme Catez, Slovenia’s biggest Health spa offers ideal conditions for relaxation and is the perfect place to get over your golf defeats, if need be.

To the west you find Otocec at Novo Mesto with thermal waters and a medieval island castle as well as a 9-hole golf course, which will be added 18 holes until 2008. With these 27 holes it will be well on its way to become a new pearl on the Slovenian golf crown. T

his golf tour ends in Ljubljana, capital of Slovenia, an architectural treasure with a lot of charm, which is always and at any time worth a visit. Not far from Ljubljana and its beautiful old city, where you feel the throbbing of the city and its culture, below the medieval castle, lies Aboretum Volcji Potok, an 18-hole golf course embraced by varied and very soothing pinewoods.

We look forward to welcoming you – experience Slovenia, a country with high culture, breathtaking nature and generous hospitality!
